<p>The dictionary defines telemetry as highly automated communications process by which measurements are made and other data collected at remote, inaccessible or dangerous places and transmitted to receiving equipment for display, monitoring, and recording. The original telemetry systems were termed &#8220;supervisory&#8221; because they were used to monitor electric power distribution. Telemetry solutions were first implemented in Chicago in 1912, in which telephone lines were used for data transmission on the operation of a number of electric-power stations to a central monitoring command center.</p>
<p>With advancements in technology, telemetry has spread its wings to other fields, each making improvements and modifications to suit the desired purpose. Originally, the data was relayed over wires, but modern telemetry more commonly uses radio transmission and GSM (Global System for Mobile communication) technology for information transmission. One of the limitations of the earlier telemetry systems was the restriction of the subject to the confines of telephone lines. Wireless networking without the encumbrance and restriction of wires connecting the transmitter and receiver has catapulted the potential applications of telemetry solutions.</p>
<p>The list of applications of telemetry is practically endless. Implementing telemetry solutions enables automatic monitoring of large, complex systems such as satellites, chemical plants, oilrigs, and electric power plants, thus eliminating the need for a person to read monitor each location manually. Other areas where telemetry solutions are put into practice include gathering meteorological data, remote meter reading, logistics management, tracking endangered land and marine species, and monitoring manned and unmanned space flights.</p>
<p>Biomedical telemetry or biotelemetry is another telemetry application, which provides a means for transmitting physiological or biological information from one site to another for data collection. Technically, it refers to systems, which require no mechanical connection. Biotelemetry studies in the last three decades have permitted many areas of physiological and behavioral monitoring in diverse conditions. Since the 1970s, telemetry solutions have been utilized for real time physiological monitoring state of patients, who are at risk of abnormal heart activity. These patients are outfitted with specialized telemetry devices, which wirelessly transmit alert messages or distress signals via the standard SMS (short messaging system) protocol to the central database, immediately summoning health care professionals, if the patient suffers from a critical condition. </p>

<p>Tape measures are used to measure short distances. The tape measures have also undergone its share of advancement and today we get them in the form of digital tape measures. The digital tape measures are very accurate and easy to use. They have a digital screen where the result is displayed. Depending on the type of the surface you want to measure, tape measures are found in many types. The tape measures that are available in the markets are very accurate and the price depends on the number of features this tool has in it.</p>
<p>The traditional tape measures where the tape had to be wound again after used has been replaced  by the modern retractable form. Here we do not have to roll the tape inside the case after use. The tape is retracted automatically inside the case with the help of a small spring that is attached to it. The spring if damaged in this case has to be replaced for proper functioning of the measuring tape. These retractable measuring tapes have to be used gently.</p>

<p>While measuring surfaces the least count of the measuring device is very important to get the most accurate readings.  While taking the measurement human error is also likely. You have to keep records either by marking or by noting down the measurements so that the factor of human error can be avoided. In today’s date the laser measure is considered to be the latest and the best in the measuring technology. The laser measure uses laser beams to measure surfaces.</p>
<p>The laser measures use the combination of both laser and digital technologies.  Combination of these two technologies work together to yield the most accurate results in measurement domain. In older days measuring surfaces using traditional measuring tapes used to be very inconvenient as the tape used to sag after some years of using . But now with the new tapes this drawback has been overcome and measurement can be taken just by pointing the laser measure.</p>
<p>The laser measures have a digital screen where the calculated distance is displayed. For long distance measurement the measuring wheel is used. The measuring wheel looks like a walking stick with a wheel attached at the base. Some of the measuring wheels have a digital counter also. This tool is very accurate and long distance calculation is done very easily with it.  The cost of the laser measure is higher than the digital or the traditional measuring wheel. So cost wise measuring wheels are preferred over laser measures.</p>

<p>The tape measure has evolved into a much modern process of getting measurements. It developed from the ribbon type to the most modern digital and laser technology capable of measuring in the most accurate method.</p>
<p>&#13;Tape measures are similar to rulers but, the difference is that it can be folded or rolled. They are commonly used for dressmaking and tailoring. They are made up of ribbon, cloth, plastic, or metal. Tape measures consist of linear measure marking in metric and imperial units. Carpenters or construction workers also make use of tape measures made up of thin metallic ribbon that remains straight. The metallic ribbon retracts into a small convenient storage. Surveyors also utilize tape measures with a hectometer as its measuring unit.</p>
<p>&#13;A unique feature prevalent to most tape measures is a small diamond which is embedded every 19.2 inches. It is called black truss marking. Measuring tapes are ideal measuring tools because of its flexibility which can be used to measure even tight corners and curves. It can also be carried in a pocket because of its small size.</p>
<p>&#13;This measuring tool comes in different types:</p>
<p>&#13;Body Measuring Tape</p>
<p>&#13;This type of measuring tape can be used to measure circumference of the head, waist, legs and arms of the body. One of the models of this type is the Quick Medical QM2000 Measure Mate Body. It features accurate and quick measurements. Another good feature of this tool is that it can measure up to 60 inches and has automatic retracting system. In addition, measurement readings are shown on both sides of the tape. For a more accurate measurement, a 0.1 cm increment is used with this tool.</p>
<p>&#13;Measuring with the Measure Mate is simple. Just wrap the retracting tape around the area which you want to measure and then put the end into position. Afterwards, just push on the button and it automatically locks into position.</p>
<p>&#13;Adhesive Measuring Tape</p>
<p>&#13;This type of tape measure comes with an adhesive that allows it to be removed and positioned on almost any surface. The tape can be written with marking pens or pencil. It is 1 inch wide and 100 inches long and is colored white with black numeral markings. This is mostly used by police investigators or Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO). It is ideal in measuring blood splatter on any surface, bullet holes, or any pieces of evidence for crime scenes.</p>
